SCOTLAND – since 1988
Among Whisky aficionados Signatory doesn't need much introduction. As one of the most active Independent Bottlers of the last three decades, Signatory has become a house-hold name in the Whisky world. Set up initially with the idea for a celebrity to sign each bottle (an idea that was soon dropped) Signatory now commands over a portfolio of nearly 6000 releases since their beginnings in 1988 (that's about 200 bottles a year!). Back then Andrew and Brian Symington started the business in Newhaven, close to Edinburgh. In 1997 they took over the Edradour distillery in Perthshire and moved their operations to their premises in 2002. Nowadays Signatory has more than 50 different releases available for purchase at any point in time.
In order to offer customers a guidance for selecting their preferred dram, Signatory divided their extensive release into several 'collections' that include Un-chill Filtered', the Cask Strength, and the 'Single Grain'. Others include: Straight from the Cask, Signatory Vintage, and - more recently - the introductory series 'The Ten'. Signatory remain transparent about the provenance of their drams and typically include cask number, date of distillation, date of bottling and number of bottles produced on their labels.
